Perth City Scape

I have been wanting to find out how each of my three Nikkor FX lenses compare when working with long exposure cityscape type work for some time. With the 'big trip' planned for later in the year, now was the time to give them a try. The aim was to learn my mistakes now and avoid disappointments when lens choice and time may be critical later on the trip. The big question being, " Was the 28-300 up to the job?"

So in the bag were:

AF-S Nikon 16-35mm 1:4 G ED VR

AF-S Nikkor 28-300mm 1:3.5-5.6 G ED VR

NF-S Nikkor 50mm 1:1.4 G

The D750 set to ISO 100 and Shutter Priority mode. The forecast was OK for a few hours then terrible with the first major cold front of the year heading towards Perth and the South West. Luckily I had 3 or so hours before the first rain and more importantly, wind arrived.

The 16-35mm loved the long exposure work. This shot taken at 32mm, 30.0 sec, f/9.0

At 16mm, 30.0 sec, f/10.0

At 35mm, 30.0 sec, f/10.0

The 50mm prime provided the best results in terms of clarity and sharpness but this had to be expected. Below at 13.0 sec, f/5.0

At 30 sec, f/11

At 30.0 sec, f/9.0, [At 6016 x 4016 this looks amazing].

The 28-300mm was the surprise for me. I was really impressed with the images. All vey usable. The shot of Elizabeth Quay from Kings Park at 122mm my favourite. I won't hesitate using this lens in the future. Job done.

At 190mm, 15.0 sec, f/9.0

At 135mm, 30.0 sec, f/13

At 122mm, 30.0 sec, f/14.0
