Exploring Lesmurdie Falls

Lesmurdie Falls located to the east of Perth are one of the more spectacular waterfalls on the Darling Range escarpment, especially in winter and spring. Jayne and I took a walk along the trail from the top of the falls to the base of the gulley where lush vegetation grows. We hoped there would be some water about following last weeks rain.

Walking down the hill, the trail follows the brook until it reaches a bridge at the top of the falls. A lookout allows you to view the falls and the flat land of the coastal plain, taking your view out over Perth city.

There was just about enough water in the brook to make the walk down and climb back up the gulley worthwhile, but it was not as spectacular as it could have been. Close to midday the light was not at it's best either, however it allowed the base of the falls to be lit with glimpses of brightness through the trees and it was worth a try to make the most of the available light. This of course meant risking wet feet.

The red gum or Kino was so vibrant oozing out of these Eucalyptus trees it was worth the diversion to capture it. It's a shame to think this is caused by damage and the tree may die.
